How differently does the same week pass for the person who sees the crisis and the person who has no idea?
〈Default〉 dramatises the 1997 Asian financial crisis through three people. Han Si-hyun (Kim Hye-soo), a monetary policy lead at the Bank of Korea, senses the coming collapse and pushes for action. Yoon Jung-hak (Yoo Ah-in), a financier, reads the same signs as an investment opportunity. Gap-su (Huh Joon-ho), who runs a small factory, closes a big contract knowing nothing, hoping for a better tomorrow with his family.
One tries to stop it, one bets on it, one just tries to keep the life he built. Following their choices, a national-scale event becomes a matter of one person's contract, livelihood and family.
Watching it with Bitcoin in mind raises another question. When you trust money, who are you actually trusting? How well do we understand the financial system we use every day? And when that system shakes, what choices are left to an individual?
