Build Your Own Bitcoin Signing Device: A Hands-On DIY Workshop

Theme: Don’t Trust, Verify — The World of DIY Bitcoin

Bitcoin Center Seoul, together with DIYbitcoin, is hosting a workshop to explore open-source Bitcoin signing devices and install firmware on them.

1. Event Overview

a. Date and time: November 10, 2026 (Tuesday), 19:00–21:00

b. Venue: Bitcoin Center Seoul

c. Admission: 15,000 sats

d. Host: DIYbitcoin (@diybitcoin)

e. Required personal items: Laptop, power bank, and USB-C cable

2. About the Workshop

People in the Bitcoin ecosystem build tools they need, including wallets, nodes, and miners. By using open-source software and readily available components, they can examine how their devices work and reduce their dependence on any one manufacturer.

In this workshop, we will look at how different open-source signing devices approach security and usability. After the presentation, participants will use their own laptops to install firmware.

3. Program

a. Introduction to the DIY Bitcoin ecosystem
Explore DIY projects ranging from wallets and nodes to miners and signing devices. Learn how the principle “Don’t trust, verify” relates to the open-source code and operation of signing devices.

b. Comparing open-source signing devices
Learn about Specter-DIY, SeedSigner, Krux, Jade, and the boards they run on. We will also look at their firmware, storage methods, and approaches to using QR codes.

c. Firmware installation
Working in teams, participants will install and boot Kern and KISS Signer on a board. Once the available boards run out, the activity will switch to installing Satochip on a blank smartcard and setting up a wallet in Sparrow.

d. Optional advanced activities
Participants who finish the main activity early can use Kern or Satochip as a signing device to try sending and receiving on Signet, a Bitcoin test network. Silent payments with KISS Signer and kiss-bdk will also be introduced as an optional activity.

4. Prizes

A total of five ESP32-P4 boards will be awarded to participants who actively take part in the hands-on activities.

5. About the Host

DIYbitcoin (@diybitcoin) promotes DIY Bitcoin projects and helps developers secure grants. They share project-related visuals, guides, and other learning resources through the DIYbitcoin Telegram community, and handle marketing for the Krux team.

6. Who Should Attend
